The Quade Beach Trip

This August, we were lucky to have my side of the family get together at our beach house in Lincoln City.  We had lots of fun, food, and family time.  We even got to spend time with Auntie Mil at her beach house in Road's End.  Greg, Heather, and Henry were down with Ted and Tammy.  Greg and Ted barbequed some awesome burgers and we had a great dinner with family we don't get to see much!  Jay's family even came over to Auntie Mil's.  It was so fun.  Tammy played Sorry and Too Many Monkeys with the kids, and the girls loved seeing her 4 month old St. Bernard, Bella.  (sorry, no pics!)

Back at the Krusty Krab, we were eating s'mores off of the smokey joes (they are portable you know!) and just enjoying each other.  The girls went shopping on Saturday for a bit, and some of us went out on a party boat on Sunday.  We are definitely going to have to do it again...

The weather was beautiful, and the weekend was a blast.  Quincee and Tillee love to share the beach house.  We did miss Karsyn, who was at a soccer tournament with her mom.   I already have plans for next year :)

The Dream Rig

Double Slug Bug

Quincee and Tillee have been playing slug bug every time they get into the car this summer.  That game is our constant companion, and yes, sometimes Mom would like to throw the "companion" out the window.  But, they saw this awesome mini VW bus at the Oregon State Fair, and proclaimed "We want one of these!!"  They then proceeded to give Bethie, Angi, Jay, Amber, and I each a double slug bug to the arm or leg.  I couldn't help but smile!

p.s.  I want one too!!

My First Bento

Quincee's lunch
When researching new lunch ideas, I found a bunch of American moms with bento blogs.  I love the bento idea:  healthy, homemade lunches, with less waste.  The focus is on lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and fun designs that kids enjoy in a small convenient box.  This will work out perfectly for Quincee, who tearfully told me that last year I packed her too much food and she could never eat it all. I just didn't want her to go hungry  :)  Since she was little, Quincee has not really been into food, though she is getting better.

So today I packed a "nest" of sliced Fri Chik (fake meat we've been eating for years), a fresh mozzerella ball for the little birdie, broccoli trees, corn off the cob, 2 small heart jelly sandwiches, and tapioca pudding.

I packed a similar lunch for Tillee at the same time, even though I am off work today.  This saves time and cleanup duty later.  She wanted a lunch in the new EasyLunchBox that I found at EasyLunchBox.com.

Quincee is very excited about the bento lunch, and enjoys going to blogs where they post lots of bento ideas/lunches they have made their children.  Mine is definitely a beginner bento, but it was fun putting it together!

Little Miss 2nd Grader

No Cavities!!

Yay!!  The girls went to the dentist, and loved it!  They each enjoyed their time at the dentist.  Who wouldn't...   a movie on a flat screen TV above their head while their teeth were being cleaned, a fun waiting room, and lots of prizes to take home. They even got a 5x7 picture taken, and printed out on the spot with their bright smiles! Quincee watched the new Alice in Wonderland and Tillee watched a Disney Princess movie.

The dentist said that both girls have healthy mouths.  Woohoo!!  Their new Sonicare for Kids have been doing the trick!  After their teeth were cleaned, their teeth were so white.  Their smiles are so pretty :)

Straight...

The girls wanted their hair straightened.  I think they look very cute, but I miss Tillee's curls.  They'll be back tomorrow!

Now off to the Dentistry for Kids in Wilsonville.  The office looks amazing online.  They even have a teen office which looks like a diner.

Quincee and Tillee Go Camping at Metzler Park

In July, we went camping with Uncle Jay, Aunt Ang, Cousin Kassidy, Amos and Jazmine.  "My favorite thing to do is go down to the river and walking across to the other side with Kassidy and Jay," says Quincee.  "My favorite part was going to the river and going swimming." says Tillee.  "Oh and the marshmellows!" adds Tillee. Other things that we did were:  walking Amos and Jazmine, playing at the park, playing kickball, sleeping in the tent trailer, roasting hot dogs, running up and down the hill, and eating candy.  Look at our pictures....

We love going on our ANNUAL NIECE CAMPOUT!

I Heart Mom!

August 5th is National Judy Day, otherwise known as her birthday :)  Happy Birthday!

10 things you don't know about Judy:
-  She was born in Fresno, CA
-  She married my dad when she was 16, and my dad credits her wisdom to the fact that they bought their house on 5th Street.
-  She makes a mean Mississippi Mud, and won't share the recipe with the family, especially Tammy Wease :)
-  She loves Goodwill, and gets some amazing deals there.
-  She would do absolutely anything for her family, she is so generous and selfless.
-  She worked at Big Burger Drive-in for 25+ years, she was 14 or 15 when she started.  Tons of people still remember her from there.  Not a day goes by when I work that I am not asked "How is your mom doin?"
-  Everyone admires Judy for her determination, strength, sense of humor, generosity, go-get 'em, say it like it is nature.
-  She is an excellent baker:  cookies, pies, dilly rolls, etc.  are made to perfection.  Her snickerdoodle recipe is legendary.
-  She won't touch the computer.
-  She nicknamed my husband "Muffy" which he has now lived with for almost 20 years.  He tried to talk her out of it, but there is no arguing with Judy!
-  She is the queen of joke presents!

Ok, that is 11, but I couldn't leave out the joke presents.

My Mom and Dad
Anyways, Happy Birthday MOM!!
I love you,

The Disneyland Salad

On Friday night of our trip, we ate at Goofy's Kitchen.  It was fun, and buffet style, so we got to try lots of different food.  I tried fried plantains, teriyaki salmon, and a salad labeled generically "special salad."  It looked good, so I tried it and it was delish!  I recreated it for a barbeque, and everyone thought it tasted like summer.

1 red bell pepper
1 orange bell pepper
1/2 of a softball sized jicama
1/2 of a walla walla sweet onion
8 green onions
4 ears of corn (if you love corn, use as much as you want!)
1 carton light sour cream
2 tablespoons of taco seasoning (I used Lawry's)

Cook corn. (the corn from Disneyland had been roasted).  Remove from cob.  Chop other veggies small, the same size as the corn.  Combine taco seasoning in the sour cream.  You could probably thin with milk, as the salad in Disneyland had a runnier consistency, but I didn't mind how it came out.  Coat veggies with sour cream mixture.  Chill.

The nicest thing about this salad  is it is adaptable.  Add cilantro (I can't, I think it tastes like soap), tomatoes, acini de pepe (small round) pasta, cucumbers, etc.   You can vary how much seasoning for your taste buds.

This truly is the epitome of a summer salad, with fresh and crisp ingredients!   Can't wait to make it for our family functions.

Family Update

Yes, I started a blog, and then never posted. Bummer!
I have lots of ideas for posts, and lots of pics of our little family.  I'll get them on here someday :)

Things have been going well for the Molalla Muffetts.  We have had a busy summer, with lots of fun had by all.

Ben has been working at BCT and managing the logging at TenMile.  That has resulted in him talking to his uncle. Dean, quite a bit.  Stump calls increased this year, and that is a good sign the economy may be coming back around these parts.  He got his '85 Suburban running really nice with new motor and exhaust.  He hasn't had as much time in Lincoln City as he'd like, but he did manage to ride the "mini-coaster" at Disneyland.  He is still taking expert care of our yard, for which Lacee is thankful!

Quincee will be entering 2nd grade in the fall.  Her teacher is going to be Teacher Barb, her kindergarten teacher.  She is excited.  Teacher Barb is fun, and effective at controlling her class.  Quincee has been swimming a lot this summer, and is almost to level 4.  Her elementary backstroke is picture perfect.  Quincee loves hanging out with her friends, even if there is a fence separating them!  She plays with Eric and Juliann, our next door neighbors, through the chain link fence.  The kids are begging us to cut a door into the chain link.  Quincee's favorite rides at Disneyland were "Screaming" and "Soaring over California."  She was not afraid of any ride.  Quincee is excited to go camping next week, and has enjoyed having friends down at the beach house.

Tillee just turned 4 and will start preschool in September.  She will go 3 days a week now that she is older, and she loves it!  Tillee has also been swimming a lot, and is right on the verge of keeping herself afloat.  She is a sinker.  She has been going to speech class again, and is becoming even easier to understand,  She loves hanging out with Audrey and  Eric and Juliann.  Tillee's favorite ride at Disneyland was the "mini-coaster."  She had lunch with the Princesses at Ariel's Grotto for her birthday, and the whole restaurant serenaded her, with the  Happy Birthday song.  It was very exciting for her.  She couldn't believe all of the princesses were there.  Quincee and Tillee got all of their autographs with photos.

I am still working at Cutters.  This summer has gone by way too fast!  I had a blast at Disneyland, my favorite ride was Screamin', which I rode with Peeps.  I feel fortunate to have been able to take the girls at this age when they still believe the characters are 'real".  I have spent some great time at the beach house.  Lots of sand time, even took a nap at the bay while the girls played with daddy.  So relaxing.  The rest of the summer will be busy, I really don't even want school to start.  I like having the whole day off with both girls.

Pics to come :)
